Abalone shells have sentimental meaning to me that brings me back to my third grade class read--The Island of the Blue Dolphins. I remember them carrying symbolism throughout the book. Whenever I flip an abalone shell on its back I marvel at its ever-changing iridescence insides. The colors change with every angle and degree of lighting, reflecting a rainbow color. They have this oval like bowl shape to them, that cradles delicate objects. Although this was served on my plate for dinner, I see them holding multiple purposes. I find jewelry to hold value in this bowl. I actually found very affordable pieces of jewelry that I have collected over the years. The shapes and carved out designs captured my eyes and became my possessions. My collection may not be valuable in the  monetary sense but I value their existence and they serve great purpose sitting inside the shell as they do worn.
